One80 Place RISE Culinary Program

Bread + Butter helps place students at One80 Place in hospitality positions that are mutually beneficial for both the student and employer. One80 Place provides food, shelter and supportive services to help homeless individuals and families turn their lives around.

The RISE (Raising Individual Skills for Employment) Program at One80 Place is aimed specifically at teaching its residents culinary skills and placing them in jobs within the hospitality industry. Students enrolled in the RISE program help prepare over 500 meals a day for the residents at One80 Place. Students learn common kitchen terminology, basic knife skills, customer service, weights and measures, food preparation methods and attain ServSafe certification. Upon completion of the RISE program, students participate in a graduation program and seek employment within the Charleston hospitality industry.

Bread + Butter supplements this program by helping RISE attain guest chef teachers and partners for their weekly curriculum and also their graduation program. We also help supply graduates with knife kits, chef coats and the supplies they need to succeed in the workplace. Furthermore, Bread + Butter connects local restaurants to One80 Place to  aid in their food rescue program by coordinating “Food Runner” volunteers to pick up food that would otherwise be wasted from local restaurants and deliver it to One80 Place for use in its kitchens.
